Zoo

Anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of animals in the city that was once a ducal seat should take a trip to Gotha’s zoo. Not far from the city centre and surrounded by forests and hiking trails, it offers a home to more than 850 animals who are just waiting to be discovered by you. Besides local species of animals like donkeys, goats and chickens, several exotic animals can be admired at the same time. Amur tigers, steppe dingos and Syrian brown bears obviously feel at home here. It’s not surprising as the zoo is distinguished by its natural green spaces and unspoilt nature into which the enclosures are harmoniously integrated. While you are walking along the 1.7 km long path, you can let the zoo’s charm work its wonder and watch the animals in a relaxed atmosphere. The café run by the Gotha zoo support association invites you to take a little break in between over food and drink.

An educational experience for all ages
The focus at Gotha zoo is on the alliance between nature and animals. The zoo offers many opportunities to learn lots of new things about the different animals. The “Green Classroom” at the heart of the little zoo is a great place for young visitors in particular to go. The little wooden house provides space for an educational time with exciting talks and allows visitors to ask questions about the world of animals in a small group. You can also find out lots of interesting facts about your favourite animals and even experience individual species up close during interesting guided tours and feeding shows. An educational nature trail and the presentation of habitats that tend to rarely be shown, such as piles of brushwood or stone, give all ages insights into various animals’ lifestyles. Naturally it is not just educational but also enjoyable at the foot of the Seeberg. An adventure playground and the popular petting zoo also leave nothing to be desired for the very youngest visitors.
